Take the less travelled route by foot to encounter Sri Lanka’s panaromic Kunckles mountain range over five nights, trek through the Belihul Oya virgin forests in search of mystical waterfalls over two nights and finally slip into the jungles of Butulla and Yala for a night each – overall a nine night experience
Bandaranaike INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
At the airport, you will be greeted by your Travel guide who will take you into the rich forests of Sri Lanka at Hunasgiriya. Relish the scenic journey as you pass the paddy fields of the low country ascending to the tea plantations and forests of Hunasgiriya. Find yourself surrounded by rolling green hills and listen for the trickle of hidden waterfalls.
Spend a lazy day adjusting to the Sri Lankan climate. At a convenient time, drop by the closest city, Kandy, well known as the centre of Buddhism. Become acquainted with the city and pay your respects to the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Back at the Ashburnham tea estate which surrounds Mahatenne House, we suggest you follow the waterfall trail for a quick dip.
For a refreshingly new experience pack your bagpack and trek through craft villages, forest patches and cultivated land with the company of Jetwing’s own naturalist. The trek only requires moderate fitness and appropriate attire, but this way you have the chance to catch panoramic views of the Knuckles mountain range which is unknown to most.
Whilst on the Hunasgiriya Trek you will be traversing through ten villages both traditional as well as new settlements, tea estates, paddy fields, Pinus plantations, and grasslands. The trail moves along estate roads, footpaths, through paddy fields and in some instances it falls along steep climbs. Enjoy the thrill of it all.
Having completed an exciting trek, relax and rejuvenate at the comforts of the three star hotel Hunas Falls
Relish the drive with endless views of tea carpeted valleys and the bright flash of female “tea pluckers” in their pimento, fuchsia and cerise saris. Enroute visit a tea factory and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Ceylon tea. After which you will be descending to the jungles of Belhul Oya to rest at the simple but warm River Garden Resort
Set off on your jungle expedition in search of the formidable Hulan Ella waterfall. As you hike along take notice the cultural curiosities – you will be passing though small villages, gravel roads, past temples. Finally reach the waterfall where you are welcome to take a refreshing bath.
You will learn that there is an even more majestic and breathtaking waterfall – Duwili Ella. Spend the morning trekking in search of this and having reached it, enjoy lunch.
Today you will set foot in the Yala National Park, famous for the elusive leopard and has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. The sloth bear and Asian elephant that are also part of Sri Lanka’s Big Five can be spotted.
As all good things must come to an end, your chauffeur guide with comfortably take you to the air taxi or helicopter landing point. Next enjoy a bird’s eye view of our paradise island as you are whisked away to the international airport in time for your return flight. Alternatively, you could always soak up some sun on Sri Lanka’s pristine beaches which are as close as an hour and a half away from Yala
